The Kealakekua Bay Marine Sanctuary and State Park has a coral reef and seas that are crystal clear and full of marine life. While you can trek or kayak to the bay, the best way to see this spectacular coral reef is by boat.

Kealakekua Bay is Hawaii's largest Marine Life Conservation District. Because the bay is protected from fishing, it has a greater variety of marine life than other bays on Hawaii Island. You'll remember this snorkeling experience for a lifetime thanks to the crystal clear waters, large schools of colorful tropical fish, and playful pods of wild spinner dolphins that frequent the area

On the Captain Cook Snorkeling Tour, our boat, Makua, only takes a maximum of 6 people, which makes it a more personal experience. With this small-group encounter, you'll get the most out of your snorkeling adventure. Depending on the weather, the boat trip from Honokohau Harbor to Kealakekua Bay might take up to 45 minutes. As we go south down the Kona Coast, your US Coast Guard-certified captain and crew will tell you about the history of the area.

Your swim guide will assist you into the water and guide you across the reef to the greatest snorkeling spots in Kealakekua Bay once you arrive at the snorkel destination. You'll have no more than one hour in the water before returning to the boat.

The Captain Cook Snorkeling Tour includes all of the snorkeling equipment you'll need, including a high-quality mask, snorkel, and fins. All you need is a swimsuit, hat, and towel, and you're set to go! You'll be given snorkeling equipment as well as island-sourced pineapple, non-alcoholic drinks, chips, and a surprise treat. We suggest bringing a towel, hat, sunglasses, and a waterproof camera. There is space aboard the boat for your backpack, purse, and other small goods.

For safety reasons, everyone who enters the sea must be able to swim at least 25 yards in the ocean without a life jacket, and we have a 280-pound (127 kg) weight limit. All guests receive foam noodles and, upon request, life jackets. Please bring a towel and reef-friendly sunscreen to the port, as well as your swimsuit. We will provide all of the necessary tour equipment (snorkel, mask, fins, floatation). We have GoPro Hero 9 cameras for rent that you can use to record 4K video and photos of your tour.

All tours must be done with a minimum of four guests. If we do not meet our minimum, we will give you an alternate trip or a full refund. You can also buy more tickets to make sure that there are at least four people on the trip.
