Best Sea Experiences in Aljezur

Aljezur is a little village on the far west end of the Algarve. It has kept his authentic Portuguese charm of a rural village. It's a great location for watersports and an Aljezur SUP Tour. At the same time though, there are a lot of cute shops, delicious restaurants and in general a very relaxing flair. But most importantly - the beaches around Aljezur are some of the most beautiful you will visit during your stay in the Algarve!

There is a lot of wild, untouched nature around Aljezur. The beaches of the western Algarve that are closest to it have mostly a café or a bar where you can get some drinks, but besides that, they are much wilder than the beaches further East. Praia da Arrifana is one of the most famous beaches in Aljezur. But there are many more beaches to discover around Aljezur. Stand-Up Paddleboarding in Aljezur is a great way to explore the region!

  • Our favorite beach: Praia da Arrifana
  • Our favorite restaurant: Moagem Aljezur
  • Our favorite watersport in Aljezur: Arrifana SUP Tour

Getting around in Aljezur

Since the region of Aljezur is still very little inhabited compared to the rest of the Algarve, there is not too much public transport available. There are mainly busses from Aljezur to nearby bigger destinations, like Lagos or even Lisbon. But to get around in Aljezur and to the many many beaches, the best way is really to rent a car. You can rent a car in Faro when you get to the airport. This way you’re more independent and can really explore the region. What also works in Aljezur is hitchhiking - but this is of course not something for everybody!

Best things to do during your holidays in Aljezur

The west coast of the Algarve is especially famous for its surfing. Around Aljezur, there are many very good surf spots. Thanks to the broad variety of different beaches all along the coast, you can always find a great spot to catch some waves

But did you know that Aljezur is also a great destination for rural tourism? There are a lot of farms in the natural park where you can work away, and it’s a great spot to learn a lot about Permaculture for example. And you also have the option to practice Yoga at the Moagem in Aljezur or join interesting workshops.

However, the main thing to do in Aljezur is really exploring the amazing beaches. But there are also two rivers in the region of Aljezur. You can join a SUP Tour on the Amoreira River or on Odeceixe River to explore the unique flora and fauna of the region.

The best watersports in Aljezur

The best watersports in Aljezur are, without any doubt, SUP and Surf. Rent a board, load your car and just cruise along the coast in search for the best waves. And an Aljezur SUP Tour in Arrifana to explore the region is something that should be on the top of your list as well! You can even do this tour during sunset, which is an even more magical experience!

What and where to eat in Aljezur

Given the location right off the coast, obviously fish and seafood should be something you should eat in Aljezur! There are some great restaurants in the village of Aljezur, for example, Sabor’arte.

For some great brunch and lunch, you should definitely drop by Mo Bistro in the centre of Aljezur. Here you have great coffee, daily changing menus and food made with love. For some pizza, try Trigo Vermelho just outside of Aljezur. Here you can get homemade gluten-free Pizza and amazing juices!

Enjoy the beautiful beaches around Aljezur

The region around Aljezur is blessed with some of the most amazing beaches. Since it’s on the West Coast of the Algarve, the scenery is a lot different from the South Coast Beaches. The cliffs are steeper, the colors are different, there are more waves and it’s not as hot. But the beaches are just breathtakingly beautiful.

Praia da Arrifana and Praia do Monte Clérigo are the two most famous beaches in the region. Praia da Amoreira is also a real gem, and along the river that is just behind the beach, you can always find a calm spot, even during summer. Not too far away from Aljezur, you will find Praia do Amado, a real hotspot for surfers. Then you also have the wide Praia da Bordeira, where you can walk for miles and miles. It’s the perfect spot to escape the tourist crowds in summer. And further to the west, you can catch some waves at Praia de Odeceixe or go for a SUP Tour on the river. Just behind Praia de Odeceixe is the end of the Algarve and the start of Alentejo
