Tips for your holidays in Barbados

The Caribbean Dream!
Who hasn’t wished at least once to wander the seemingly endless white sand beaches of Barbados with their turquoise waters and marvel at the beauty of the Caribbean Sea? This destination is a yearning dream for so many and for as many good reasons. Let it be the rich colours of nature, a buzzing nightlife or the cutest swimming piglets, Barbados has something to offer for every heart to get lost here. Get sucked into a culture so unique and discover the beauty of the Caribbean way of life!
Stroll along the Lawrence Gap and lose yourself in a shopping adventure! Observe monkeys and turtles at the wildlife reserve or simply enjoy some time on one of the countless white sand beaches that line up along the coast like pearls on a string. We’re sure Barbados offers for each and every of your tastes and longings!

Language and Currency in Barbados

Over 90% of the population in Barbados speak Bajan Creole as their language of everyday life, which will not help a traveler much. But since Barbados used to be a British colony, the official language of the country today is English.
The local currency in Barbados is the Bajan Dollar. The exchange rate with € is usually around 1-2 or 1-3 (for 1€ you get between 2-3 Bajan Dollars, depending on the current exchange rate). You can use the money changers in the airport or downtown or simply get money at one of the ATMs.

Getting around in Barbados

Rental Car
Car rentals are very frequent in Barbados and your private rental is a nice and independent way of getting around. Of course this will only work if you have an international driver’s license and don’t mind driving on the left side of the road. It might take a little getting used to, but once you’re confident, a car is great to explore the island independently.
Taxi
Taxis aren’t metered in Barbados, but fares are set at fixed rates by the government to protect you from scams. Every driver will produce a list of hourly fares and can carry up to 4 passengers at a standard rate.
Bus
Busses into pretty much any direction run at frequent but not very reliable schedules throughout the day. Fares are low, but so is the level of comfort. The busses aren’t numbered, but their direction is shown in the front at the windscreen. Make sure you carry exact Bajan change for the fare!

It’s easy to fill your holiday schedule and you will most certainly discover: No matter how long you’re staying for, you just always need more time! You’re never done with Barbados. But here are some of our favourite activities and excursions for you to start with:

Carlisle Bay
A holiday can only ever be considered relaxing when there is time to enjoy the sweet taste of a beach day doing - exactly nothing but that! Carlisle Bay offers stunning turquoise waters and white, powdery sand to stretch out on. Grab a book, grab a drink, grab life and make it your own! Nothing is more relaxing than listening to the sound of the Caribbean Sea and the sweet breeze in the palm trees above your head.
