This RYA powerboat level 2 course gives you the skills and knowledge you need to drive a powerboat well. It is also the basis for the International Certificate of Competence. The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) in the UK offers powerboat courses and qualifications under the name "RYA powerboat."
These courses teach powerboat handling and safety and cover a range of topics such as launching and recovery, boat handling, navigation, and man overboard procedures. The RYA powerboat courses are recognized internationally and are designed to provide practical training for both recreational and professional powerboat users. The course is conducted in fast-planing ribs in coastal waters, emphasizing the skills required to operate a boat in local waters.
The Level 1 Start Powerboating Course can be taken before the Level 2 Powerboat Course, but it is not required.The minimum duration of the course is 2 days, and the minimum age requirement is 12 years. Candidates under the age of 16 will receive an endorsed certificate. The content of the course includes launching and recovery, boat handling, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, and man overboard recovery.
The certificate is given to powerboaters who can take care of themselves and are aware of their own and the boat's limits. The course format is predominantly practical, with some classroom elements. The meeting point is next to Lagos Marina in the south-west of the Algarve in Portugal, where great conditions are available for all kinds of water sports activities year-round.
