As melhores experiências marítimas em Cancun

Cancun is probably the most well known destination for a Caribbean dream holiday on the map. The city in the Yucatan peninsula in the far east of Mexico is full of life, colours, and offers some of the most amazing beaches the Caribbean holds! In addition to that, Cancun is considered one of the safest travel destinations in Mexico, which makes it a top of the list choice when considering spending your holiday at the Caribbean coast in Mexico.

For those adventurers among us, Cancun offers a treat of the exceptional kind: The Maya sites! Ruins of a civilization long gone and a mystery not only in their buildings, but also in their sudden disappearance. Countless conspiracy theories revolve around the rise and fall of the ancient Maya empire. Discover Cancun’s secrets and enjoy a holiday so unforgettable, it can only be a Mexican one!

Language and Currency in Cancun

The official language in Cancun is Spanish. Cancun being a well frequented destination among international tourists, you’ve got at least a chance of getting around with English. However, speaking at least a few words of Spanish will make your stay in Cancun a whole lot easier after all!
The currency used in Cancun is the Mexican Peso. It’s exchange rate lies at about 24:1 with the Euro, which means you will get about 24 Mexican Peso in exchange for 1 Euro. You will find a large number of local banks and money changers in and around Cancun and most resorts and restaurants in those areas accept credit cards.

Getting around in Cancun

Most guests in Cancun will take advantage of the large number of tourist resorts offering pretty much everything you can ask for within walking distance. But Cancun has a lot more to offer and it’s very much worth making your way out of the comfort zone to dive into the true and authentic Cancun, Mexico!

Rental Car
Driving yourself in Cancun takes a lot of care and focus and will most likely involve at least one eye to eye with the local law enforcement. If you’re a confident driver and willing to take on the chaotic traffic in Cancun, then a rental car is a great option for you to discover areas off the beaten tracks and get around independently. Imagine the stunning and uncrowded Caribbean beaches you can get to, if you’re able to make your way out of the touristic center of Cancun!

Bus
Buses are the regular way of getting around for big parts of the population and should be your go to as well, if driving yourself is a bit too big of leap for you. Bus rides in Mexico can vary in the level of comfort - like, a lot! Fairly cheap fares can be found for the local buses, but you will likely end up in a poorly ventilated, crowded bus with a chicken on your lap. If that doesn’t meet your standards, you will want to go for the actually quite comfortable and modern tourist buses connecting various destinations in Cancun on short and long distances.

Taxi
Taxis and Ubers can be found pretty much anywhere in Cancun and at any time. Solo rides as well as shared vans and Ubers are great options for discovering the Zona Hotelera and areas outside of the touristic center. Make sure you negotiate the fare with your taxi driver before you start your journey, since taxis aren’t metered in Mexico. Outside of Cancun and the tourist center you may want to be careful with rides at night, especially when you’re travelling by yourself.

Best things to do in Cancun

Cancun is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean and has a unique vibe hosting thousands of international travellers every day. You can easily make new friends at fun beach parties, relax in the sun or widen your horizon exploring islands, ancient ruins and the stunning underwater world. El Rey Archaeological Zone
There are a good number of Maya cities to be found around Cancun, but the El Rey site is literally right under your nose when staying in Cancun. It’s a small site of big importance as a former key part of the ancient trade route of the Maya empire. It’s very easy to get to this site and get a first impression of what this long gone civilization used to be.

The sculptures have been covered by marine plants and are providing home and shelter to a number of fish and other marine wildlife.

Isla Mujeres

Where and what to eat

Mexico’s cuisine is rich, colourful and surprising! Dishes like enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas and chilaquiles will treat your taste buds during your holidays! Next to the local cuisine, restaurants in Cancun also offer a variety of international dishes serving the desires of their international guests.

Enjoy the beautiful beaches in Cancun

Oh those beaches! Cancun is amongst the leading Caribbean tourist destinations for a good reason, since it holds stunning white sand beaches almost too good to be true. Whether you’re travelling with your family looking for a child-friendly beach such as Playa Tortugas, or some water sport adventure like flyboarding or snorkeling, you will not be let down!
Definitely worth a visit are those beaches at Isla Mujeres, an island about 13km from Cancun. Playa Norte is one of the most pristine beaches of the region and invites you for a dive with it’s crystal clear turquoise waters. In Isla Cozumel you can get yourself into a stunning snorkeling adventure and marvel at the colours and diversity of the Caribbean sea.
