Kahului is the biggest town on the northshore of the Hawaiian island of Maui. It’s also said to be the heart of Maui, as it’s the place where all important activity of the island takes place. Due to the harbour and the airport, it’s the hub of the island and also the place where most local people of Maui work and live. Thus, it’s only logical that you will find a lot of gastronomy and culture in Kahului!

It’s a great flea market and worth a visit if you’re staying in Kahului and looking for some souvenirs to take back home after your holidays on Maui! 

Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum
The Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum displays the history of sugarcane plantations on the island of Maui. The Museum is located close to the town of Kahului and is a great place to visit if you want to learn about the history of the region. The era of sugar cane plantations marked the culture of the region a lot, and in the former Manager’s home you can visit the exhibition. The Sugar Museum has the aim to explain how the current society of the island was influenced by the history of the plantations and the sugar cane industry. 

Maui Nui Botanical Gardens
The Maui Nui Botanical Gardens are focussed on displaying and saving the local plants of Maui island. The Botanical Garden is located in the town of Kaluhui, and is a great way to dive deep into the local flora. It’s a great place to visit to get to know more of the native plants and immerse yourself in the lush green vegetation of the island. This cute beach is a social hotspot where you will meet a lot of fun people! It’s location close to the airport makes it easily accessible. Kahana Beach is also a very popular beach for kitesurfing. You can sit on the sand of the long stretch and enjoy watching the kitesurfers flying around the sea! It’s also a great spot for windsurfing! One thing is sure - if you visit Kahana Beach Park, you can engage in some fun watersport activities or watch the pros killing it in the water! 

Kaulahao Beach
If you have transportation while staying in Kahului, make sure to make the short drive of 15 minutes to visit Kaulahao Beach. The access is very easy, and the beach itself is super beautiful, thanks to the sand and palm trees surrounding it. It’s a great beach for swimming, and it’s actually famous because there are a lot of sea turtles to be found. If you visit in the afternoon, chances are very high that you will get to see some of the beautiful turtles, and if you’re lucky you can even swim with them! 

Stable Road Beach
This hidden gem is a beautiful little beach just east of Kahului town. It’s a rather small beach, but thanks to the protected bay, it has pretty calm waters. This makes it a fantastic beach for swimming and for families with kids. You can do snorkeling in the shallow water and simply enjoy relaxing on the sand surrounded by lush green nature. It’s a calm beach and usually doesn’t have a lot of crowd, so perfect if you’re seeking some peace and quiet!
