This one-day course provides a practical introduction to powerboat handling and safety, including launching and recovering from a road trailer, everyday boat handling, and safety equipment use.
The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) in the UK offers powerboat courses and qualifications under the name "RYA powerboat”. These courses teach powerboat handling and safety and cover a range of topics such as launching and recovery, boat handling, navigation, and man overboard procedures.
Different kinds of boats may be used for training, and the certificate will say what kind of boat was used. No experience is needed, and candidates must be at least 8 years old (16 years old for certificates that have been endorsed).
The course goes over how to get the boat and crew ready, how to pick up and secure a mooring buoy, how to leave and return, what to do if a person falls overboard (in theory), and more.Participants will be able to drive under supervision after completing the course.
