Tips for your holidays in Croatia

Croatia is known as one of the best beach resorts in Europe. It is still a rather untouched jewel in the Mediterranean Sea, located in the northwestern part of the Balkan Peninsula. It is a small yet very geographically diverse country. In fact, this coastal country has amazing islands, incredible beaches and lagoons, fantastic weather and a lot of sea to discover.
Given this natural richness, boat tours in Croatia are very popular. In Croatia, you can find some of the best sailing charters but also speedboat tours and epic watersports.

Popular destinations for the best watersports and boat tours in Croatia

Split

Split is a small town located in Dalmatia on the shore of the Adriatic sea. This friendly city has become more and more popular for travelers and has a lot of surprises to offer! The charming old part of the town, full of history, is one of the main attractions but you can also explore many other things. Did you know that the fortress of Split was one of the places where The Game of Thrones was filmed?
Just outside of Split, you can find numerous paradisiacal islands to visit by boat, kayak or SUP! The beaches of the mainland are also simply beautiful and perfect for sunbathing.
When you visit Split, you shouldn’t leave without visiting the Blue Cave. The Blue Cave is one of the most known caves of the Adriatic sea. Hop on a boat tour from Split to enjoy the characteristic caves and islands on a comfortable speedboat. This tour will take you to Biševo island to discover the Blue Cave and the Monk Seal Cave.
The iconic Blue Lagoon is also a highlight of the area. You can join a boat tour that takes you there from Split. Did you know the Blue Lagoon is the natural habitat of wild dolphins? You might be lucky and spot some, so pay attention!

Trogir

Trogir is located on a small little island between the mainland of Croatia and a bigger island called Ciovo, in the Adriatic sea. The town of Trogir is immersed in history such that its old part of town is considered a UNESCO World Heritage site! You’ll find incredible Romanesque churches surrounded by outstanding Renaissance and Baroque buildings from the Venetian period.
Being located on an island, you of course also have a prime spot to enjoy the beautiful beaches or go out exploring the other islands around Trogir! One of our favorite beaches is Pantan Beach.
From Trogir, you can enjoy some of the best boat tours in Croatia like an island and wine tasting tour. This tour will take you to enjoy the beautiful beaches of Blue Lagoon on island Drvenik, Šolta and Brač islands and do a wine tasting in a traditional wine cellar.
If you’d like to visit Hvar and the Pakleni Islands, you can join a boat tour to Milna bay on Brač island, the Pakleni Islands and then Hvar with time for snorkeling.

Language and currency in Croatia

Standard Croatian is the official and literary language in Croatia. It’s one of the official languages of the European Union. Croatian is also one of the official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina and a recognized minority language in Serbia and neighboring countries.
Almost everybody speaks English in Croatia. Especially in the more touristic coastal destinations, you’ll find a lot of English speakers. But it’s always nice to know some basics in the language of the country you’re visiting, right? “Hvala” and “Molim” will do wonders for you.
The local currency is the Kuna. Although Croatia joined the EU in 2013, joining the Eurozone is still some way off. The latest news is that Croatia may adopt the Euro in 2023. At most places, you can pay by card and you’ll also find a lot of ATMs in urbanized areas.

Getting around in Croatia

The best way to discover Croatia during your holidays is definitely with a rental car! With a car, you can explore the coastline and beaches by driving through all the authentic and picturesque villages. And also get eyesight on the countryside.
If you prefer, the train is a popular mode of transport in Croatia and might be more interesting for you if you’re traveling on a budget. The downside of the train in Croatia is that it features most within the country’s interior and less along the coast. Zagreb is the central hub of the train network. The two most useful coastal destinations are Rijeka and Split.
Within major cities like Zagreb, Zadar, Split, Sibenik and Dubrovnik, we recommend using Uber, which works very well. Renting a bike is a great option.

Whatever you decide to do during your trip to Croatia, we promise you will love this part of the Mediterranean! Sunshine, amazing watersports and boat trips are guaranteed! For any further tips or requests, feel free to contact us anytime.
