When talking about visiting the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, most people will probably think about city trips to London or Edinburgh. And these destinations are definitely worth a visit, thanks to the buzzing life and colorful cultural scenes. But did you ever stop to think about the British coastline?

Being an island, it comes natural that it is surrounded by sea on all sides. The coastal parts of Great Britain and Northern Ireland are all breathtakingly beautiful and stand out with its magical and charming vibes. No matter whether it’s the Northern coast around Durham or the south west of the island in Cornwall - the beauty of the coastline has nothing to hide and definitely can compete with other European coastal areas! 

Cornwall is THE surf mekka in the UK, and it is for a reason! Blessed with beautiful sandy beaches and a consistent swell, it attracts people from all over Europe to enjoy some fun waves around the Cornish coastline. But even people who don’t surf can enjoy the unique view over the lush green hills behind the pristine beaches. 

Around Cornwall in general and Newquay in special there is a lot to explore and many fun activities to do. There are picturesque fishermen villages that reflect the traditional way of life of the Cornish people and invite visitors to stroll around and take in the typical flair of that region. Besides, walking along the coastal paths is always an adventure and will take your breath away with the amazing views you will have over the sparkling water of the Atlantic Ocean!

In the United Kingdom, the official language is (British) English. If you speak English, you will get along easily. BUT depending on where you are, you might find it rather difficult to understand locals. There are a lot of very strong dialects that differ a lot from region to region in the UK. Sometimes you might feel that the person speaking is not even talking English, but if you ask them to slow down they will usually make an effort. :) The currency in the UK is the Pound Sterling, and if you have a card you can easily just use your card to pay.

The easiest way to get around in the UK is by public transport. You can use one of the many coaches (busses) operating between cities and regions, or catch a train. These transports are usually very simple, however it is recommended to book in advance to make sure you have a spot reserved for you! 

Once you are in a town or city, you can opt to rent a bike to get around in the city! This is a cheap and fun way to get from one place to another. Bigger towns also offer Taxi Apps like Uber and cabs (taxis) are also found all around the cities. 

If you want to visit more remote places around the UK and venture to secret spots, you can of course rent a car. Be aware though that in the whole of UK, people drive on the opposite side of the road! It can be rather confusing at first, but if you stay concentrated you should pick it up in no time!
