- About Us
Only half an hour away from Faro Airport, Albufeira is a coastal city in the southern Algarve region of Portugal. Back in the days, Albufeira was a typical Portuguese village and has now become a major holiday destination in Europe, with more than twenty sandy beaches and a busy and exciting nightlife strip. Remaining its historical flair with sparkling white houses with Moorish origin coexisting with modern apartments. Despite the modern achievements and the millions of tourists that visit every year, Albufeira has maintained its Moorish feel and is still the fisherman's village it has always been. Local fishermen now use the modern marina, a base for diving, dolphin-watching and boat trips. The marina is the heart of the city, surrounded by candy-colored apartments, with a waterfront promenade and outstanding restaurants.
Beyond the Marina, Albufeira’s tourist areas are divided into two main areas, Areias de São João, known colloquially as 'The Strip', and the Old Town. The Strip's main street is full of bars, restaurants and terraces. This area is a very nightlife oriented area, and hence crowded by young party people. The Old Town is situated right at the seafront and is predominantly a pedestrian area. Also here you can find an incredible large variety of restaurants, bars and shops. Street-artists entertain the crowds who go for a walk on the promenade after dinner. One of the main attractions for the youngsters are the open-air discothèques and the many bars with live music (the most famous being Snoopy Bar on the seafront and Vertigo on the central square). The Old Town is about four times the size of The Strip in terms of the number of bars and restaurants.
Another reason why Albufeira is such a hot holiday destination, has to do with the broad range of ocean activities it hosts. For the ones who love the ocean, Albufeira is a real paradise. The dolphin watching tours are definitely the most popular ones. Just pick the kind of boat you like most, from speedy rigid inflatable boats to confortable luxurious catamarans, and get a board on this adventure. The BBQ tours as well as the Pirate cruise are very popular too, in particular for families. For the most audacious and looking for a more intimate contact with the Atlantic, why not go for a scuba diving experience. The broad variety of beaches are an alternative for a lovely refreshment in the Atlantic.
