This Bird Watching Kayak Tour in St. Pete Audubon is a kayak tour through the Shell key Preserve with bird watching experts from the St. Pete Audubon Society, that takes about 2.5 hours. This once in a lifetime tour will take you through the calm waters and mangroves teeming with wildlife in the Gulf of Mexico. Shell Key Preserve is located just minutes from St. Pete Beach and is one of the real natural treasures of Tampa Bay.
Our journey will begin by taking you into the shaded serenity of the hidden mangrove tunnels. As you paddle through these magnificent tunnels keep your eyes out for mangrove crabs, snook, and the countless species of birds that nest within the trees. The next stop on the tour will bring us to a beautiful white sand beach where we will stop and take in the gorgeous Shell Key scenery.
Winter, including late February, is the only known time to spot American White Pelicans, and you will see countless other birds including cormorant and osprey! All along the way our experienced tour guides will ensure your safety and educate you about the Shell Key environment and wildlife. While paddling, continuously be on the lookout for dolphins, manatees, pelicans, stingray, mullet, and many other local marine life!
