We hope these tips help you planning your holidays in the Algarve.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Algarve is the most sought for region of Portugal by tourists, especially during the summer season. The big influx of tourists is noticeable on hotel and restaurant occupations but also on traffic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Algarve counts with two major roads: <strong>the national road N125 and the highway A22<\/strong>, also known as the <em>Via Infante de Sagres<\/em>. If you\u2019re travelling by car in the Algarve, you\u2019ll quickly meet the A22 highway which stretches from Bensafrim (near Lagos) to the Spanish border.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In total the A22 measures about <strong>133 Km<\/strong>, having Faro (airport) about in the middle. The N125 national road is free, opposed to the tolls we pay on the A22, but it\u2019s not as safe and comfortable as the motorway.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tips om je te verplaatsen in de Algarve<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There are essentially <strong>7\u00a0ways to get around in the Algarve: by (rental) car, train, bus, taxi, uber, transfers and hiring a camper<\/strong>. Each of this means of transport can be most suitable to get around in the Algarve, depending on the situation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We\u2019ll present the how, pros and cons and a tip for each of these ways for getting around in the Algarve based on our personal experience.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8235\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8235\" style=\"width: 667px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8235\" src=\"https:\/\/seabookings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/highway-Algarve.jpg\" alt=\"Tips for getting around in the Algarve - by rental car\" width=\"667\" height=\"224\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8235\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Algarve &#8211; by rental car<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>\n<h3><b><\/b><b>Rental car in the Algarve<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>How<\/strong>: upon arriving at the airport, you can hire a car at the airport. There is a broad range of car rental agencies. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marinarentacar.com\/\">Marina rent-a-car<\/a> is the one we\u2019ve been working with most.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We\u2019re very satisfied with their pricing, quality of fleet and service. International agencies like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europcar.com\/location\/portugal\/faro\/airports\">Europcar <\/a>are also available. The toll charged because of the use of the A22 highway will be debited from your credit card after giving in the car.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Pro<\/strong>: Hiring a rental car in the Algarve is a great way to discover the region and opens up many remote beaches or villages that have little or no public transport access.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Con<\/strong>: The Portuguese are rather impatient drivers. They will attempt to overtake on hills or blind corners and speed up. Unfortunately, Portugal has one of the highest levels of road deaths per population in Europe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Tip<\/strong>: don\u2019t forget your credit card as for most rent a car agencies in the Algarve, a credit card is required as a deposit.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8233\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8233\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8233\" src=\"https:\/\/seabookings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/Train-Algarve.jpg\" alt=\"Tips for getting around in the Algarve - by train\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8233\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Algarve &#8211; by train<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>\n<h3><b><\/b><b>Train in the Algarve<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>How<\/strong>: the trains in Portugal are operated by CP. There\u2019s a train rail along the whole Algarve, \u201cLinha do Algarve\u201d, being the endpoint Lagos and on the East Vila Real de Santo Ant\u00f3nio. Personally, this is one of our favorite means of transportation in the Algarve.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For example, to get from Lagos to the airport in Faro, we usually go by train. The timetables and prices can be easily found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cp.pt\/passageiros\/en\/\">official site of CP<\/a>. The tickets can be bought on the train stations and if there\u2019s no station, only a stop, you should get your ticket in the train.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Pro<\/strong>: Traveling by train is cheap, fun (nice views and local people) and you can do something while traveling (sleeping or reading a book for example).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Con<\/strong>: Despite having 30 different train stations and stops in the Algarve, some beaches or points of interest are not reachable by train. Of course you can then jump over to a bike, taxi or uber.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Tip<\/strong>: There are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cp.pt\/passageiros\/en\/discounts-benefits\/Discounts\/bilhete-praia\">special discounts<\/a> for the summer season.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8230\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8230\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8230\" src=\"https:\/\/seabookings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/Bus-Faro.jpg\" alt=\"Tips for getting around in the Algarve - by bus\" width=\"500\" height=\"230\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8230\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Algarve &#8211; by bus<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>\n<h3><b><\/b><b>Bus in the Algarve<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>How<\/strong>: Eva Transportes in one of the major bus operators in the Algarve. In the Algarve, you\u2019ll find frequent daily, long-distance busses connecting the major towns in the Algarve with Lisbon and the rest of Portugal. Within the cities, sometimes there are urban bus networks (Albufeira, Faro, Lagos and Portim\u00e3o).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Pro<\/strong>: There are no trains to the Southwest point of continental Europe, Sagres. Fortunately, Eva Transportes operates in between Sagres and Lagos. So, if you want to go surfing or do a boat tour in Sagres, you can go by bus (<a href=\"https:\/\/eva-bus.com\/gen_pdf.php?SERV=9&#038;ORIGEM=Sagres&#038;DESTINO=Lagos&#038;VAR=1\">schedule here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Con<\/strong>: Along with the limited network, bus services on weekends and Public Holidays are a lot less frequent than on weekdays. In addition, most routes have no service after about 8pm. In fact, personally, we avoid to use the bus in the Algarve all times.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Tip<\/strong>: To get to Faro airport from the train station of Faro, you can go by bus. This bus runs about twice an hour from around 5AM to 11PM. The fare is about \u00a0\u20ac2,50, tickets can be bought in the bus and the journey takes about 20 minutes.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8232\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8232\" style=\"width: 960px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8232\" src=\"https:\/\/seabookings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/Taxi-Algarve.jpg\" alt=\"Tips for getting around in the Algarve - by taxi\" width=\"960\" height=\"330\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8232\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Algarve &#8211; by taxi<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>\n<h3><b><\/b><b>Taxi in the Algarve<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>How<\/strong>: The taxis in Portugal \u00a0are easily identifiable. Taxis are either beige or black and green. Taxi ranks are usually found in all the resorts and big hotel chains, city centers and shopping centres. To catch a taxi in the Algarve, it is best to go to a rank or call a taxi to pick you up (you can find a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mydestinationalgarve.com\/usefulinfo\/taxi-information\">list of numbers here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Pro<\/strong>: Taxis are a easy, flexible and relatively cheap way of traveling in the Algarve.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Con<\/strong>: Regular taxis can only take four passengers. Some taxis are six and eight seater, \u00a0so if you are a part of a bigger group it is recommended to book beforehand (and be ready to pay a bit more). In addition, be aware that taxi drivers are not fond on getting their cars dirty, so don\u2019t count on them for dusty dirt tracks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Tip<\/strong>: You may find some taxi ranks with no taxis or packed with people cueing. It\u2019s recommendable to call to arrange your pick up. We use Uber to get around in Lisbon all the time. This summer, the smartphone taxi service also launched in the Algarve (possibly only until the end of September).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Pro<\/strong>: Uber is the easiest, safest and cheapest way to get around the Algarve. In fact, traveling by Uber is easier, safer and cheaper than a regular taxi service. And it\u2019s classier too \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Con<\/strong>: For now, Uber is more concentrated in the busiest cities of the Algarve: Faro, Albufeira and Vilamoura.
