Language and currency in Gran Canaria
As in the rest of Spain, on Gran Canaria the official language is Spanish. However, there are many people who speak English, which is the second most spoken language. There are also many people who understand German. In almost all public establishments, such as stores, restaurants, hotels, etc., there is at least one person who speaks English or German. What is the currency in Gran Canaria? The Euro, like in the rest of Spain and Europe.
Getting around in Gran Canaria
To travel around the island we highly recommend you to rent a car, since public transport does not reach all parts of the island. In Gran Canaria there is no train network, but they only have buses or guaguas as they name it in the Canary Islands. The bus company that manages the insular transport network is called Global and you recognize them by their turquoise-coloured buses. It is also possible to rent a bike. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is quite modern in terms of mobility by bicycle. There are several bike lanes that run through the city.
