This championship is an international <strong>motorboat racing competition for powerboats<\/strong>. The Formula 1 Powerboat World Championship is the highest class of inshore powerboat racing in the world. In fact, it is <strong>comparable to Formula One car racing<\/strong>. In the Formula 1 Powerboat World Championship, each race lasts approximately 45 minutes following a circuit marked out in a selected stretch of water, like a lake, river, dock, or sheltered bay. This year, <strong>the powerboats in Portim\u00e3o<\/strong> are back.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2016, and after a five-year break, the Formula 1 Powerboat World Championship returns to the <strong>Arade River in Portim\u00e3o<\/strong> between<strong> July 29 and 31<\/strong>. The organisation has confirmed that the Grand Prix of Portugal will be moved back to the Algarve after \u201clogistical issues\u201d last year\u2019s event in Porto. Portim\u00e3o is the third round of the F1H20 World Championship 2016. We\u2019re super excited to have the powerboats in Portim\u00e3o back as this is a<strong> super exciting event<\/strong>!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lavinia Cavallero, the vice-president of one of the event\u2019s promoters said: \u201cWe are glad to be able to maintain an all-important second country location in Europe, thanks to the enormous interest shown and support of the Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Turismo de Portim\u00e3o \u201d. In fact, powerboat racing has a \u201clong-standing tradition in Portugal and a big following countrywide\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of all the exciting battles of the powerboats in Portim\u00e3o, the most notable and well-remembered performance was probably by Norway\u2019s Marit Stromoy. In 2011, the <strong>powerwoman Stromoy<\/strong> outpaced her male peers to take pole position. Nevertheless, Stromoy\u2019s hopes of a maiden GP win ended with a dramatic coming together with Shaun Torrente.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Portim\u00e3o, in the Algarve, was one of the most popular venues<\/strong> for teams and drivers of Formula 1 Powerboats. In fact, the city in the Southwest of Europe has already hosted 13 successful Grand Prix from 1999 to 2011. In 2016, \u201cThe return to Portim\u00e3o will be welcome news to several current team managers and drivers including the sport\u2019s most successful driver \u2013 10-time world champion and now team manager with Abu Dhabi, <strong>Guido Cappellini<\/strong>\u201d Laviana added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Formula 1 Powerboats in Portim\u00e3o are known for attracting thousands of people to the town\u2019s riverside area. As such, the <strong>Formula 1 Powerboat World Championship is of great economical importance<\/strong> for the whole region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2016, the F1H20 World Championship started in <strong>Dubai in March<\/strong>. The second stop will take place on July 17th in <strong>Evian, France<\/strong>.
