We happened to pass by this place and heard one of the people at the center speaking French. So we asked for information and decided to take the plunge.
What a pleasure! Several options, but without regret, we took the €40 one: 2 islands with a 45-minute stop on the Iha Deserta (11km long, Barreta in its former name), a 45-minute stop in the lighthouse town on the Iha do Farol to see its fabulous little houses with splendid cactus and succulent gardens, then a 2-hour stop on the same island (which is 7km long) but in the town of Culatra. On the way back (sometimes on the way out, it actually depends on the marshes) we walked along the oyster beds. We had booked the restaurant on Culatra that they had recommended, and we weren't disappointed: €15 for beautiful, unusually fresh oysters and €13 for an assortment of local fish—it's not worth a picnic in the heat! In short, a tour that was supposed to last 5 hours (and actually lasted over 5 hours 30 minutes).
The guide's explanations (Joao, thank you so much!!), in French, and with great humor and professionalism, were truly perfect.
A tour HIGHLY recommended. But BE CAREFUL: you must book in advance! We went on Thursday, and there were only spots left for Sunday morning (10 a.m., otherwise it's 3 p.m., but not the big 5-hour tour, "only" 3 hours).
